The Canadian Charter

HISTORY – IMPACT – FUTURE

Ottawa
June 12-15, 2025

2025 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Conference

The Canadian Charter

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (1982) is considered by many Canadians as one of the most important national symbols that has enabled civil society to modernize and become more inclusive, tolerant, and open to the outside world. The Charter has placed Canada at the forefront of cultural and intellectual currents in democratic societies, particularly in the fields of art and literature.

Nevertheless, it is subject to continuous and thorough analysis by researchers and academics. The Conference aims to open the discussion on the Charter by exploring various perspectives on its role and impact, both nationally and internationally. You will have the opportunity to hear from speakers from all walks of life, representing various roles in civil society and different educational and disciplinary approaches, to foster multi-perspective and differentiated discussions.
